An annual service to skiing since 1963 by the Calgary Ski Club, the Canadian Ski Patrol System and the Lake Louise Ski Club

 

SNOWSHOE APPRAISAL

 

Snowshoeing is a growing sport. The Calgary New & Used Ski Sale wishes to encourage this winter on-snow activity.

 

All goods will be appraised as is usual.

 

While we offer a bargain sale, we want our customers to be able to use the equipment immediately after a safety inspection and adjustment for bindings without major repairs being required before use. 

 

There are four principal types of snowshoes. All may be accepted if they are in good shape.

 

Reject snowshoes if:

 

a/ Wood frame & cat-gut:         

Wood frame is damaged

There are any breaks/cracks in frame

The wood is not well varnished

The cat-gut is not tight and well varnished

 

b/ Wood frame with neoprene deck:

There is any damage

The wood is not well varnished

Lacing to the frame is cut or gouged

The harness is not in good shape

 

c/ Aluminum frame with neoprene deck:

There are deep scratches - they could lead to frame failure

Deck is not in good shape

There is unreasonable play in binding

Lacing on the frame is cut or gouged

Pivot for boot is loose

 

d/ Plastic frame and deck:

There are any cracks

Bindings are not in good shape

 

 

For all types of snowshoes, it is important that:

 

All snowshoe bindings are carefully checked.

 

All buckles, straps, ratchets must be in good shape and firmly attached

 

All cleats or other traction aids should be intact with no cracks and with no missing teeth
